CHARACTER INFO AND POWERS

Series: The Winx Club
Series' Medium: Show and movies
Character: Flora
Age: 20 (at least at the usual canon point i play her from, though she's first introduced at 16)
Sex/Gender: Female, on both counts

Personality:

A magical fairy with widespread powers and responsibilities, Flora would only assert that she is just a regular girl, and that's not inaccurate. She loves to shop and have sleepovers, does ballet, plays in a band, and generally just loves going through life, having new experiences and growing as a person alongside the people she loves most. That she also happens to help save the world or universe from time to time is far from unimportant, but it's not the only aspect of her life. She is a sweet, earnest, and nurturing individual whose defining trait is perhaps her love of and empathy towards nature, but this extends itself to the people in her life, as well. Open-minded, supportive, sensitive and patient with others, she often acts as a mediator and getting them to see angles to situations they might not have considered otherwise, and is glad to do it, as she loves to help where she can. While she'd identify as ordinary, is easy going, and a likely a very literal treehugger, she is capable of far more than she seems, may perhaps even subvert expectations, and one does themselves no favours to underestimate her based on appearances alone.

"Do you remember Sky's pendant? He gave you that to show you how he feels."
-Flora, to Bloom

She is incredibly kind, nurturing, and supportive, with small acts or large ones, both intrinsically and with deliberate consideration. Until she has reason to otherwise, she approaches everyone with open friendliness and courtesy, and loves to meet new people and make friends. In her dealings with others, it's very clear that "strangers are friends you haven't met yet" is something she lives by, even if it's not a sentiment she's explicitly expressed. When she's first introduced, she makes fast friends with the other girls while doting on one of her sentient plants. After encountering the fairies of Beta Academy she happily expresses how good it is to meet fairies from a different school (only to be shot down, but hey, can't win 'em all). Her kindness isn't something that's relegated to surface pleasantries, though; once she's made a friend of you, even if it's an easy thing for her, she is incredibly dedicated.

"Bloom's not back yet, huh...." -Flora
"Nah, she's as stubborn as a jammed pc." -Tecna
"I'm sure she's fine, Flora." -Stella
"I dunno, it's getting kind of late." -Flora
And later...
"I say we all go look for Bloom".
-Flora
"She'll come back when she's tired of getting rained on, besides, she was acting like she didn't want us hanging around, anyway."
-Stella

(For the record, the above situation ended up with Bloom being brought in by someone else, as she was rendered unconscious during what she was up to. A+ friends, for sure.)

More seriously, her friends aren't grossly inconsiderate or negligent. They certainly care about one another very deeply and show it, but Flora is most frequently seen being the first, or only one in some cases, to look out or worry for the rest of them or other things and people, often the first on the scene when there's a crisis. She is the only one to accompany Bloom on a dangerous rescue mission to save Sky's would-have-been fiance; when all but one of her friends skip classes, get caught, and have to clean the whole school as punishment, she helps them out, even though she didn't play hookie; when Ogron, effectively puts her in a magical Force Choke in order to force her into giving Bloom up, she refuses, even at the potential cost of her life; when Mirta is turned into a pumpkin, despite being a witch, Flora works diligently to break the spell; and while she has little problem fighting against evil people and monsters who consciously act that way, she is always against attacking other creatures who are simply acting out of their nature, sometimes at the expense of practicality, and always to the exasperation of her friends. It largely doesn't matter to her, though, only spurs her to come up with better solutions, so nothing has to suffer needlessly. But whatever they need, whether it's a hug, a shoulder to cry on, a cup of tea to settle down, or someone to talk to, she’ll be there. Even if, objectively speaking, it doesn't really concern her—no more or less than anyone else—she'll make it her concern and a priority to be involved in a matter if it means helping someone. Anyone. Put simply, Flora is just there for people.

"Well, now you have a chance to change your ways and make up for what you did in the past. This is your land. Respect it."
-Flora

She sees and believes in the best of people until proven thoroughly otherwise, often past the point many others might. Combined with an optimism that wanders into naivete territory, this leaves her open to being taken advantage of, at times. When first meeting the Wizards of the Black Circle, she greets them openly, not suspecting anything, until they claim to be friends with Bloom. (To drive this point home, even if one argues that someone who “looks like a villain” shouldn't be assumed as one, Roxy encounters the wizards under similar circumstances, save their use of magic, and is instantly wary of them.) She supports and fights for the idea of trying the wizards in a fair and impartial court, in spite of all that they'd done up to that point when they claim to repent, not the least of which was ganging up on her and attacking her in a way that she could have easily been killed. But, nah, it was all just water under the bridge (until they blew it up).

That said, while she's optimistic, she's not lacking in perspective and not a fool. Things aren't always going to go as smoothly as she likes just because she believes in them, and she acknowledges misdeeds for what they are, even grave ones, and deals with them accordingly. But, in either case, whether she's made to see that things will turn out differently or if she encounters a few bad--sometimes very bad--apples, she is never jaded. If something turns out differently, she learns from it; if one person, many, or even a majority does something wrong, she will try to counsel them if it's possible, and is enduring in her capacity to forgive, even if she may be intimately impacted by the consequences. When Alice is wrongfully accused for playing a prank that landed Flora in the infirmary and all her friends readily condemn her for it, Flora instead seeks her out, not at all angry, and wants to understand why she would do such a thing. She shares an empathetic link with nature, a force which is, to her, sentient and alive in many ways people are. When it is abused and mistreated, she feels the pain as her own, circumstances that she finds herself in more than once. Instead of resenting others for it, she patiently tries to explain and guide them toward kinder behaviours and attitudes. It doesn't always work, and she has been taken advantage of alongside her friends (as like with the wizards' betrayal), but she'll never give up wanting to try. No matter what happens, she chooses to believe that people have it in them to be good, to change and grow for the better, and strives to help them do so if they have it in them to be.

"Good thinking, Flora, transforming was enough to make our magical energy imperceptible."
-Musa, on eluding their pursuers

She is intelligent and studious, appreciating the value of learning, observation, knowledge and sharing it. Despite her nerves at times, she achieves top grades in every subject, is always the one who was concerned about everyone's studies when they are breaking rules (or even when they aren't) and while she is tempted into cheating on a test at one time, she is the one who ultimately put her foot down for the group and guards the answers. (She doesn't look at them, either, refusing temptation turns out to be the actual test). In a flashback to their first year, she is the only one in her entire class paying attention and taking notes while her friends fly paper airplanes and generally fool around; in their second year, when her friends played hookie only she (and Tecna) remain behind. She's also the one shown or mentioned in canon teaching skills to others most frequently, as seen when Bloom changes the colour of some flowers thanks to the spell she taught her, and counselling Roxy on getting closer to nature. When the group is faced with a puzzling situation or in need of a strategy in a fight, she is often the first to speak and frequently offers suggestions. She notices key details that often go overlooked, and is able to analyse and understand complex crises and think of solutions for them. She can see the branches, leaves, and bark, but also the forest for the trees.

"Your hunger for vengeance doesn't allow you to save the forest you claim to love!"
-Flora, to Diana, Great Fairy of Nature

Though normally gentle and even-tempered, this should not be mistaken for any lack of spine. Flora is patient and understanding with those who act out of hardship, frustration, and stress (and will seek to lighten their burdens however she can), but if anybody should slight her out of completely unwarranted malice, she will readily respond in kind. She is not afraid to call anyone out on their foolishness or faulty logic, either, no matter if it's from her friends or enemies. When Musa asks her what kind of fairy she was for failing to turn Pumpkin!Mirta back into herself, she calls her out on it; when Stella wants to share test answers with the entire class, she points out how stupid an idea it is--to whit, she frequently admonishes and scolds Stella for her inappropriate comments or complaints more than anyone else (really, she's practically Stella's keeper); and, even chained and weakened, she speaks up against Diana, a fairy who shares her element and has proven herself to be much more powerful than her, but utterly uncaring of the fact in the face of her misguided intentions. She may not be strictly impolite in some situations--unless you're a friend, in which case sass and sarcasm are likely--but, she's no wilting flower and will give as good as she gets.

"Who's going to stop me? You?"
"Yeah.
Me."
-Flora, in reply to Icy

She will use non-combative solutions to problems if they are available, but is perfectly understanding of the fact that not everybody is diplomatic and/or well-intentioned, that sometimes there is no choice but to fight, and when she does, she's far from unrecognisable, but many aspects of her personality are turned on their head. The Lilo, largely a focus episode for her, thoroughly illustrates her inability to have faith in herself and her own strengths. She's told by Bloom that she's quite capable and brave, and that she doesn't lack focus but belief in herself, something that she struggles with when making the effort to push past it. However, doubts, insecurities, fears--no matter where she may have come in her efforts to rectify them--they all cease to exist the moment she comes up against someone. When facing Icy in the same episode, she hasn't a trace of uncertainty or hesitation. There is no question of if she can do it, she's simply going to, or going to try her best, there isn't room for anything else that has nothing to do with winning.

"Don't tell me you're getting tired already, Anagan. Come on, this is fun! Let's keep playing!"
-Flora

More to that, there's a part of her that enjoys and is invigorated by fighting. She's not sadistic, but the normally humble girl may taunt and bait her enemy when she's got the upper hand or believes she will (whether she does or that it'll last is another matter), engage in banter, or even flirt while trading blows. Playful or serious, despite her kind nature, when it comes to fighting, Flora is aggressive and unrelenting, and cannot be cowed.

"This is nature. What's wrong with a few little friends living peacefully by our side?"
-Flora on nature, while her friends panic and desperately try to swat small hoards of bugs

She is even-keeled and easily one of the more--if not most--mature of her friends, but she is not without her bouts of eccentricity that border, if not pass the line of "intrusive" ten miles back, at least when it comes to nature and her plants. Especially when it comes to her plants. They needn't even be hers. If she isn't met with any serious opposition, Flora will turn any space that she occupies for any period of time into a greenhouse and/or lab for her experiments, charms plants in various ways, for no other reason beyond seeing them happier and healthier, or will invite aspects of nature to come hang out (like bugs. and spiders c:::: ) She sees nothing wrong with this, either believing it is necessary (when she needs to do it for school), or is far more frequently of the mind that it is life-enriching. She's done things to help and brighten the lives of people around her, so she's not entirely wrong in her thinking, but she has little sense of restraint, and is often oblivious to the inconveniences she inflicts on others as a result.

She'll swing between happily relenting to being embarrassed and truly apologetic when she's made to realise--always, always after an intervention--that she’s gone too far...only to do it again some place else, or just in the same place--but she's getting better about it! Honest! Sort of. Ish. Sometimes. Yeah, not at all.

Nature's one Hell of a drug.

"These little stuffed animals are so beautiful. It's such a shame they're going to end up in the incinerator, just because they're flawed."
-Flora, heralding domestic disaster

Her biggest, most pervasive, and most frequent crimes have to do with Nature, but they are not limited to it; she created the fairy pets, a great success that worked in great favour for the Winx, but did so simply because she didn't want old toys to be destroyed. The pet store the girls created and came to run was the effect, not the cause for the pets' creation, and before they started it, they'd overrun Bloom's home and were incredibly unruly. Flora is always well-meaning with them as she is anything else, but she is prone to flights of fancy and whimsy, and sometimes gets carried away with her indulgences and good intentions.

"I wish I could believe that."
-Flora

A stark contrast to her attitudes towards others, Flora may be a staunch believer in many things and people, but she does not keep that same enthusiasm for herself. At times, she may find herself doubting her own abilities and self-worth, and it can be incredibly difficult to reassure her otherwise. It can, though rare, manifest in short, small, and private displays of jealousy if and when it regards certain other people. Believing that her boyfriend wanted to be with another girl--a girl who it just so happened to be her own princess--Flora grew more and more uncertain, despite Crystal's later apologies and assurances that Helia loved her. While she can set her feelings aside when need be for the good of someone else, such as when she approached Crystal to restore Sky's memories despite how she may have felt, she is otherwise prone to passive behaviour, and, unless persistently prompted, will often instead quietly and miserably divorce herself from the situation without voicing her true feelings.

"Watch your step!"
-Flora, as she tangles the Royal Guard

Finally, she can be flexible with things that pertain to the law or generally acceptable behaviour, in some circumstances. Flora is almost unfailingly polite and well-mannered to everyone, but especially to authority figures to whom she honestly defers and respects. That said, she can be a little flexible in the way of the rules, conventions, and expectations that they've set and that she is, likewise, beholden to. She'll largely do so only if she feels she must, but sometimes "must" and "want" are used interchangeably. Though not on her own, and even as one of the slightly lesser offenders among her friends, she has still been suspended from school (but in a fairy way), crashed royal parties, broken into palaces, broken into rival schools, and probably knows her own like the back of her hand by now with how many times she's had to clean the entire thing as punishment for breaking the rules. Most of these adventures were for good reason in the greater scheme of things, like saving worlds or the entire dimension, and while they eventually come to light as such, all of them started as being for the sake of her friends, which is a good enough call to action as far she's concerned. Except for this one time she got one of her biffles to break into her then-crush now-boyfriend's room to get deets on if he liked her or not. Which is probably not a For the Greater Good situation. Probably.

Further, she has no problem acting against those of greater station than her own if they've proven themselves to be thoroughly unfit. At that point, they're the same as anyone else who's evil--someone who's got it coming. While she was the only one who shows any sympathy to the burdens and expectations heaped on (then-Princess) Diaspro despite her nasty attitude, she has no problem later helping to foil her once she compels Prince Sky with mind control, plans to seat herself as Queen of Eraklyon, and, worst of all, tries to break up Bloom and Sky.

That's just not on.

(No, but she really cares about all that really evil stuff a lot, promise.) The same went for Countess Cassandra and her daughter who had designs to usurp the throne of Solaria, and cast Stella out.

Sometimes, it's better to ask forgiveness than permission, but even if the former is not forthcoming after the fact, she will take her licks and not argue. She may worry, she may be reluctant, she may be all-in from the get-go, but, if it's for a friend, at the end of it there is truly nothing to regret and she will hold herself accountable for her choices in the face of consequences. Flora would never cheat on a test nor play hookie for no good reason, but she'll break in to your boyfriend's high-security palace so you can ask him what his deal is. What a pal.

Physical Description:

Flora stands at around 5'7”, is lithe and curvy, especially in the hips. She has green eyes and light brown skin. Her hair is brown, incredibly thick and tapers to past her knees, the front bangs of which are long and streaked with yellow. Word's out if it's spelled or natural, and given what passes for normal and unusual hair in the context of the show, it may very well be the latter.

As a fairy, Flora has two large, iridescent forewings and two smaller hindwings that are, by and large, pink but gradate into yellow near their tips, and are shaped like stylized petals with sparkling green trim. They are patterned with shamrocks of different sizes, colours and transparencies, and there are intricate lines that flow through them. “Psychedelic” would not be a far off description. These lines breach the green trim of her wings and end in purple leaf-shaped jewels.

With the transformation comes a new hairstyle. There are two buns atop her head that are streaked with thick bands of pink that are held together by beaded hair bands that have sheer fabric attached to them. The rest of her hair is otherwise left loose.

The wings of her Lovix form remain similarly shaped, but they lose all of their intricate patterning and shimmering trim, and instead possess a foggy translucence, not unlike frosted glass, and are decorated with two diamond-shaped purple jewels on each wing. Her outfit is similar, in a fashion, save for taking on a more wintry theme. She still has knee high boots, and she also gains long, light pink sleeves that end in a fluffy, drooping ruff at her wrists.

Conversely, Flora's Sophix form takes on a tropical theme. Her wings are mostly light green with blue sectioned off near the tips. They have pink veins and are evocative of exotic petals. She abandons her boots for high-wedged sandals with straps that reach up to her knees and end in a sort of silk ruff. Her skirt is patterned off jungle tree leaves of light and dark shades of green, and her top, cut in a sort of bra-style, follows the same motif with two layers of different coloured shaped leaves. If anybody needs a reason to believe in magic, look no further than her top and how it manages to stay on.

Maaaagical Powers:

Ooh, boy. Flora is a fairy that possesses a vast array of (physics-shattering) magical powers. Every girl in the magical dimension has a magical affinity, one that's often elemental, and barring some certain circumstances where they don't have the option, she chooses to become either a fairy or a witch depending on what appeals to her personality. Fairies are, by and large, selfless and benevolent while witches are malicious and destructive. It's common for witches to be evil, but they needn't be necessarily. There have been self-serving and morally bankrupt fairies and kindhearted, principled witches, so there are exceptions, wiggle room, and shades of grey for both sides.

- ★ ABILITIES:

Breath of the World A "Therapeutic Power" Opens the hearts of people into appreciating nature. Doing so doesn't change their personality outside of that. If they were a jerk beforehand, they'll still be one afterward; they'll just be a jerk with a greener thumb.

Convergence Fairy friendship power. Exponentially amplifies the power of any kind of spell cast between two or more fairies that are in harmony with one another. (eg. destructive, defensive, constructive, regenerative, etc.) Requires great understanding among all parties, as well as them working towards the same goal. Putting energy into a Convergence spell without having a clear idea as to what it should do, or having differing ideas or conflicts among the group can result in a very violent backfire depending on the amount of energy that went into it.

Durability Fairies appear to be more durable than humans. Not by incredibly large amounts--they're not at all invincible or invulnerable by any means--but while the abuse Flora and her friends often take during fights would leave ordinary people with broken bones and internal bleeding at the very least, it only ever leaves them stunned, if that. If it's ever so bad that they're knocked out, it's without lasting injury.

Energy Concealment Will not read as magical at all if she's not in fairy form. She is, however, not human, so anyone with a sensitive enough sense of smell can easily tell she's not. Further, while she leaves a magical trail in fairy form it will be sharply cut off the moment she transforms back. There could be a faint trace, but nothing that would lead back to her.

Energy Conversion Turning fire and the like into flowers. Because who needs physics amirite.

Energy Perception Sensitive to supernatural/magical energies at all times (as in outside of fairy form as well), unless they are consciously concealed; can follow their trail; can detect the type of magic, whether it's malicious or good, dark or light. She cannot, however, detect magic if it's not actively being used, or at least passively present in some way.

Fairy Dust Breaks, reverses, or otherwise compromises and eliminates dark magic, even if the effect doesn't appear to be dark-inclined (eg. if there was a seemingly ordinary fire, but was started with dark magic, fairy dust would work. If it was with other means, like run of the mill fire magic, she's out of luck; something that could not be repaired by other ways but was broken with dark magic? she's your girl, broken with a sledgehammer? ...still your girl, but fairy dust isn't needed ); allows her to shrink to a few inches.

Flight Flies, hovers, pretty straightforward. Wing functionality is quickly, spectacularly, and plot-relatingly useless under water. Can withstand gale force winds, easily.

Magic
Conjuring Flora is also able to conjure mundane and/or summon existing objects, including food (though THANKFULLY it's been stated that magically conjured food is not as good for you as conventional), clothes, and furniture. She can also displace them.

Enchanting Able to do something as simple as getting object to perform tasks eg. cleaning products to clean, baking appliances to work themselves, etc. to allowing herself to breathe underwater to something as complex as imbuing inanimate objects with life to the point where they will have their own thoughts, feelings, personalities and living functions.

Transforming (as in shapeshifting, not fairyshifting) herself, others or objects

Spellcasting Creates effects with words to the limits of her poetic imagination, spells without words, and technical charms. She can also change the weather with dances, typically rain.

Summoning Can summon or create animals to do her bidding or just hang out

Nature Empathy Communes with nature, and is also able to use it as a secondary set of eyes and ears. This is far reaching as a passive power, but she is able to focus it consciously for greater accuracy. It's presumably all just background noise in her head until she has reason to pay attention. Can feel its pain. She is able to endure it, but when nature is grievously harmed, there is psychic backlash, and she may be rendered unconscious under some circumstances.

Nature Magic Draws energy from nature; can heal and grow all manners of plants on various terrain (infertile, ice, and indoors included) without issue with varying characteristics and effects (among them explosive, sentient, speaking, capable of digesting anything, stronger than steel, healing and refreshing effects, etc., as well as the perfectly mundane); is able to enchant mundane ones to do her bidding; projects energy with optional homing capabilities of a Nature-bent (She's a Grass type).

Potionology Expert at potion making. Also good at making homeopathic remedies that range from the cosmetic to the medicinal, magical or mundane. Really, she's just good at things that involve mixing other things, especially if they involve plants.

Shield projection/Spring Ring Can create dome shields/force fields that repel, reflect, or absorb physical or magical damage. Not infallible, and if she's reflecting, she could very well ricochet like a ping-pong ball if someone hits her with more force than she can withstand.

Teleportation What it says on the tin, without the need for Zoomix.

Transformation

Believix Power is boosted when people believe in magic, but is better boosted when they believe in magic and its/her good intentions. Loses power when people lose faith in magic and/or her. Access to four spells: Spring Ring (Shield), Summer Thunder (Creation of vines, or further empowering existing ones), Autumn Wind (Green, iridescent energy projection), Winter Rose (Creation of walls of thorned vines)

Lovix Access to Untamable Nature: creation of incredibly hardy vines made of/encased in magical ice. Presumably has access to ice-type shields and energy projection (Bloom is seen doing them, and at this point in their powers, they all have shields and energy projection of their respective element). Grants immunity to ice and cold.

Sophix Redundant as heck for her. Allows the casting and undoing of nature spells. Creation of plant life is a by-product of every spell, be it strategic, defensive, or offensive. Can cast Breath of Nature, a spell unique to her, which allows her to create huge vines and plants. (Did I mention redundant)

Veterinary Skills Animals seem to be secondary, but they still fall under the nature banner. As such, she knows quite a bit about them, and was responsible for the pets food and well-being while running the pet shop.

Wing Abilities - Believix

Speedix High Velocity flight. Tragically, no solid numbers are given, but even without the specialty wings, she flies hard and fast enough to disturb and create turbulence on the surface of water from above several feet (how to physics)

Tracix Retrocognition. Projects the the past as though it were reality. Presumably viewable by anyone with her or that she permits to see. It would be hard to view it otherwise, as it seems to be some sort of field.

Zoomix Ability to teleport with wings. She can normally hop between different worlds, easily. Doesn't have to see or know where she's going, just needs to be told a place, and that place has to, obviously, exist. Doesn't need to have been there before. Can will herself anywhere, basically.

MUNDANE ABILITIES

Agility/non-magical combat Knows how to throw a punch or kick in succession, but that's about it. She is, however, incredibly nimble and acrobatic; while not an assassin, she still has very good reflexes, and is seen casting a spell before someone with super speed could reach her at a relatively close distance.

Botany: Possesses extensive knowledge about plants, magical and mundane.

Biking Knows how to ride hoverbikes, presumably motorcycles too with adjusting. Can perform a couple of tricks alone or in a group.

Dance Quite adept at ballet, waltzing, ballroom dancing, and just getting down.

Domestics Seems to know a few stitches and knows her way around a needle and thread well enough to instruct her friends how to make a giant paraglider to escape crushing death. There are small instances, but if there's anything that revolves around anything "domestic", she's often the first choice character or the one seen knowing how to do it.

Languages Fluent in Latin; and fairy things. (note that fluency in Latin is only made explicit in the comics, but seeing as there are multiple instances of Latin--good and bad--in the show canon, having fluency would not directly contradict anything, and I would like to include it if permitted)

Music While it seems they passed up on it, Flora sings and plays the electric guitar in her friends' band, and were good enough to go pro.

Roller/Figure skating Good enough to win a planet-wide competition. (comics only)
